Creative Math!
Posted in HLF, Random Thoughts on 12/16/2008 12:59 pm by hfurbyHi again! I’d like to say I haven’t written any of the crazy thoughts lately because I’ve been super busy with life, business and wedding planning. But as I look at the empty wine bottles and egg nog containers, perhaps I’ve just been a lazy sack.
I like lazy sacks! and it reminds me that I want to find some potato sack fabric for my wedding decor. What is that called? Burlap? how tacky. Maybe I’ll make a wedding veil of burlap to match my table runners.
So, I freaked out my parents this week with the invite list. I haven’t been able to say no to anyone being put on the list – kids, adult kids of friends, adult kids of friends of other adult kids friends, and family. Of course. And, the grand total came to…189! WHAT? I’m giving everyone a cracker and a scoop of peanut butter to ration out over the 6 hours.
Once again, I am stumped as to how to throw a really fun party that celebrates family, years of support and the start of a new life – but not go broke!
I heard from some “save money on your wedding” website people in Ohio. I asked them if their book would be helpful since I live in California and the “discount” price of a venue is pretty much equivalent to their entire wedding. Her response took some creative math:
“Well, I think it would be very helpful for you. The average wedding in our area is $15K. We did it for $8K. If the average wedding cost in your area is $50K (and don’t choke on that, readers, because that’s a low ball!) and you do it for $30K, you’ve saved more money that we did! GREAT!”
I won’t even explain that – but for me, as a math person – I just smiled and decided to save my $29.95 to put towards the paper towel we’ll be using as napkins.
More soon!
