The Attractions
Posted on 01/08/2009 03:35 pm by hfurbyThings to do: I’ll keep adding stuff in the area. Please feel free to email me if you have questions about how to occupy your time here.
RiverRock Casino – okay, this is for Aunt Reg, Uncle Lou and the Repech Fam!
Armstrong RedwoodsState Park – see some of the great California Redwoods. Easy hikes or just picnic in the trees. You can also ride a horse on an easy trail ride with the Ayers’ and Armstrong Woods Pack Station.
Most Canoe companies on the Russian River open Memorial Day weekend. Water could be chilly but it is a beautiful float trip.
Fort Ross State Historic Park - Out near the coast. Interesting history for kids and parents. Just make sure they are not closed for a private event.
GOLF! So, we obviously recommend Fountain Grove Golf and Athletic Club, but it is private so let us know if you want to play a round and I’m sure Alan can be “arm-twisted” into playing with you.
The closest public course is Windsor Golf Club, but The Links at Bodega Bay Harbour and Oakmont Golf Club are both close by. Bodega is challenging and can be cold, but a beautiful setting. Oakmont has 2 courses and gorgeous views of wine country mountains – just plan for a potentially slower round.
Wine Tasting – of course, THIS is why you come to the wine country. There are many, many, did I say MANY places to taste wine. Our wedding is in the Alexander Valley Appellation so that may be an easy place to go. This is next to the Dry Creek AVA (across Highway 101). Russian River area is known for their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. PLEASE feel free to ask if you want to know some of the local wineries and wines you will NOT be able to find elsewhere. We’d be happy to send you out on a great day.
